Mighty Morphin #1.10 – Happy Birthday, Zack

As you might have guessed from the title, it’s a Zack-centric episode today! About damn time.

Ernie is checking on a contraption called a Cake-o-Matic at the start of the episode, presumably using it to bake Zack’s birthday cake.

Mighty Morphin #1.09 – For Whom the Bell Trolls

We open with an exterior shot of Angel Grove High, where this extra is trying his best to get laid.

Mighty Morphin #1.08 – I, Eye Guy

We begin at Billy’s house, which is getting to be a regular location for the show. Apparently it’s our Main Brain’s turn to mentor a child, though he gets the much-less-terrifying (though somehow a worse actor) Willy to teach.

Mighty Morphin #1.07 – Big Sisters

Kimberly and Trini are participating in about their fiftieth charity organization of the show thus far, this time Angel Grove’s version of the Big Sister program. However, they’ve lost their little sister, a twelve-year-old girl named Maria.

Mighty Morphin #1.06 – Food Fight

We open with the Juice Bar hosting a “cultural food festival,” which is rife with possibility for cultural stereotypes. Ernie strides in wearing a Hawaiian shirt and carrying cream pies, and two girls in hula skirts stop by to flirt and pinch his cheeks. Given the average age of Juice Bar customers, I’m more than a little creeped out.

Mighty Morphin #1.05 – Different Drum

We open, as usual, in the Juice Bar, where Kimberly is hosting a step class while Jason and Trini arm-wrestle. Also, Zack is wearing a rastacap.

Mighty Morphin #1.04 – A Pressing Engagement

We open with Jason trying to break the Juice Bar bench press record. He’s at 988, and admittedly, I am not by any means an expert on bench pressing, but that sounds absurdly high to me. Apparently 1010 will break the record. For a youth center.

Mighty Morphin #1.03 – Teamwork

Netflix keeps trying to skip the theme song. Clearly they don’t understand that we don’t play that game in this household.

Kimberly and Trini are running a petition to get a dump site closed down, because not only is Trini a badass warrior queen, but she cares about the environment, too. The principal, Mr. Caplan, saunters up to them and says, “It’s just dandy that you’re trying to clean up the environment,” which is super patronizing and makes him sound like he’s from the 1930s. He then asks, “But is this dump site as bad as you say?”

Mighty Morphin #1.02 – High Five

Welcome, one and all, back to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! If you missed my first recap and have no idea who or what the Power Rangers are, you should probably check that out. If you know who they are, you should probably still read it, because I like people reading the things I wrote. Once you’re done, you can come back here. I’ll wait.

Now that we’re all caught up, let’s jump straight into our next episode – “High Five.” We’re in for a rare treat today: a Trini-centric episode! Don’t get used to it.

Mighty Morphin #1.01 – Day of the Dumpster

I’m about to embark upon the impossible. An episode-by-episode review of every single iteration of Power Rangers. There are, at present count, well over 800 episodes of the series. That’s…a lot.

If you’re new to the series, or need a refresher, Power Rangers is a children’s television show that started in the 90s, starring teenagers who transform into color-coded spandex outfits to fight the forces of evil. The show’s action scenes are comprised of stock footage from various seasons of the Japanese Super Sentai franchise. That combined with the show’s general insanity tend to lead to…whatever the show is.
